I have been doing lots of cleaning out lately. I held on to almost all of the boys clothes for all these years, just in case. If you know my Mama & Ryan's Mama, then you know that = lots of clothes!!! I loaded up buckets & buckets to take to consignment sale, but continue to find things that got left behind. So I've been on eBay like crazy. Not just me, the boys have been too! I've been amazed...most of the clothes that I have sold have gone for more than I would've even priced them at for consignment minus their 40%.
I've been talking about this for a couple of weeks now & have had a few friends ask what I've been selling & how I've been listing the items. So for what it's worth here's my tips for selling on eBay. Most are related to children's stuff, just because that's what I typically buy & sell on eBay.
Tips for Selling:
1. What's it worth? Don't overprice, but don't underprice either!
2. What could you make for the item if you took it to consignment sale? I suggest listing the start price at what your take would be from a consignment sale. If it doesn't sell, you can always take it to the next sale.
3. List items that are alike. You can make a note in your listing for buyers to check out your other items for "like" items. It's kind of like free advertisement.
4. Iron clothes. For real...iron the clothes before you take the picture!
5. Take a good detailed picture. If your camera doesn't take great pictures, borrow someones!
6. Give measurements. Something that has been washed a lot may not be it's old true size. Also, we all know different brands run differently. You don't want to buy something that doesn't fit & neither does anyone else!
7. Don't forget to list if your home is "smoke-free" and/or "pet free"! I don't buy from anyone who doesn't list "smoke-free", I don't care how great the deal!
8. Place all items in a ziploc bag before packaging. I purchased an outfit that was absolutely adorable, but the packaging was torn & the sleeve was actually hanging out of the mailing envelope. I was not happy!
9. Ship as quickly as possible & always use the method of shipping that you say you are going to use.
10. Watch those shipping charges! No one wants to overpay for shipping & you certainly don't want to get stuck footing the bill because you didn't charge enough for shipping.
11. Leave feedback quickly & remind the buyer to leave you positive feedback as well.
And, for the record...I like Craigslist too! I just don't like getting phone calls for items at 3:00 in the morning just because that's when a hospital worker has a break. That seriously happened!
So I'd love to hear from any of you that love eBay or Craigslist! I'd love to hear your tips!!!

That is very interesting. I would have never thought of selling the kids clothes like that!
And what was that hospital working doing while on the job? Shopping on Craig's list?
Great tips Joy! I need to get on the ball and go through my house again to figure out what I can sell. This is has got me in the mood.
Love consignment...buying AND selling! Hope Meg gets better...she just wants her Mama's sympathy, so she is spiking that fever again.
Oh, and the new title totally threw me off!! If you had not said Meg, I would have thought you were a stalker acting like they knew me! :)
